Stone Series Statement

This series started with a period of creative play as I painted simple designs on small rocks with my family. Then this idea was translated into the subject for several monoprints. I was introduced to the phenomenon of rock balancing, which I soon tried for myself. With a large collection of rocks gathered over the years as well as groupings of rocks and a stone labyrinth around my house, I had a plentiful supply. I began inviting rocks to find a balance with one another, which required first finding my own internal place of balance and peace. There is certain magic to the moment of balance and the narrow point of contact between the stones. So this series of monoprints, ink on paper, focuses on that space, that transitory moment of improbable equilibrium.
